Welcome to the virtual ENCORE “Climate Change” working group!

To date 19 EU regions have given an overview of their climate protection activities and policies on this website. They have presented best–practice projects and reported on regional adaptation requirements and measures. The specification of their contact data facilitates communication between all of the regional experts and decision-makers and promotes exchange and co-operation — across regional and international boundaries.

All regions are invited to participate in this virtual working group. Use this website to meet your information requirements and/or participate actively in the development of this work group with contributions of your own. All of those currently participating are looking forward to working with you.

International Symposium "Strategies for Adapting to Climate Change in the Regions of Europe"

The International Symposium on "Strategies for Adapting to Climate Change in the Regions of Europe" was held in Düsseldorf from 27 to 29 October, 2009.

The meeting was designed to pool existing knowledge about the opportunities for adapting to the impacts of climate change and to intensify exchanges of experience and expertise between the regions of Europe. During five workshops, a number of climate change adaptation projects and measures launched in various regions of Europe were presented, options for action and potential implementation problems were identified and explored, and opportunities for future EU-wide regional co-operation were discussed.

Altogether, 90 participants from 13 European countries – including representatives from regional environment agencies, the research community, industry and sectional groups – took part in different workshops in order to co-operate on the following key issues:

  • climate change and water management
  • climate change and forestry
  • climate change and tourism
  • climate change and biodiversity
  • climate change and urban management
